SYLVANVALE VINEYARDS
Stellenbosch, South Africa
The historic Devon Valley Hotel outside Stellenbosch dates back to 1947 and grapes have been grown on the property since the 1960s. The award-winning hotel is surrounded by its own working vineyards, SylvanVale, which offers some of the finest grapes in this reputable wine-growing valley.
The south-east facing slopes, with their rich red soils and cool Atlantic Breeze, produce superb Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc. A programme of total quality management with rigorous bunch selection throughout the year is implemented. This results in intensely flavoured and ultra ripe fruit, the basis of SylvanVale’s big, bold wines.
SylvanVale Vineyards have produced award-winning cultivars such as: Chenin Blanc 2004 (Bronze medal at the 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition); Dry Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2004 (Bronze medal at the 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition); DV Red 2004 (Bronze medal at the 2005 Fairbairn Capital Trophy Wine Show; Bronze medal for the 2005 Veritas Awards); Pinotage 2003 (Silver medal at the 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition; Bronze medal for the 2005 Veritas Awards); Pinotage 2004 (Bronze medal at the 2007 International Wine & Spirit Competition); Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (Silver medal at the 2006 Veritas Awards; Bronze medal at the 2007 International Wine & Spirit Competition; Silver medal at the 2007 Veritas Awards); Shiraz 2004 (Rated 15th out of 215 wines tasted at WINE Magazine’s Tops at Spar Shiraz Challenge; Bronze medal at the 2006 Veritas Awards); Jewel of the Valley (4 stars in John Platters – 2006; 4 stars in Wine Magazine; Editor’s Choice in Wine Magazine); Old Vine Chenin 2007 (Bronze medal at the 2007 International Wine & Spirit Competition).
